![]() ![]() While I can understand why some people might be a annoyed when a DLC releases and they now need that DLC to play that mod, ultimately the mod was built upon the foundation of the developer's factions in the first place.Īlso the modder and mod users can also benefit from the new work for the DLC, just like the rest of us. "A modder got there first" is to me not a good reason for a developer not to create additional content. Hence selling DLC to pay for the extra work. So no, neither is this "pathetic" or "blatant milking." It's a huge game with tons of content, far more than could be paid for with just the base game price. Any way you cut it, this is a much bigger game than Rome 1, with a greater number of different factions, units and cultures. With DLC it increases to a whopping 36 playable factions even without mods. Plus Rome 2 at 14 playable factions (original 8 + 6 FLC ones) has more playable factions in the base game than Rome 1's 11, and second only to Medieval 2's 17 for most playable factions in the base game. Additional work equals additional costs to the developers, which we then pay for when we buy the DLC. They've had additional work done on them to bring them up to the standard of playable factions with things like internal politics, expanded rosters, victory conditions, chapter objectives, faction traits etc which playable factions have, and non playables don't. The Culture Pack factions aren't the same as the "unlockables" in Rome 1 and Medieval 2. They just won't have the full features of a DLC faction, because they don't need them as they aren't intended to be played. The map is now full with over 100 factions, and with the exception of those in DLCs you can play any of them with mods. In Rome 2 and others, you can still only "unlock" the playable factions you've paid for and the non-playable ones with mods. In the old games you could only "unlock" the playable factions you'd paid for and the non-playable ones in that way. Think we missed one? However, where prosperity leads, avarice often follows, and provinces under Syracusan control suffer from a notable level of corruption. Progress is a core principle to Syracuse and as such, wealth and scientific breakthroughs come easily to the city-state. And, now that Carthage and Rome are at war once again, it stands on a precipice between them will the alliance with Rome hold true, or will Syracuse forge its own destiny? Ultimately, either regional superpower would like to count Syracuse amongst its possessions. However, Rome wishes to extend its domination to the whole of the Italian peninsula, including the island of Sicily on which Syracuse sits. Although the tyrant Hiero II aided Carthage against Rome in the opening stages of their first war, he later made peace with the Romans, entering into an alliance that is still in place to this day. Syracuse is also a wealthy state, profiting from its prime position in the central Mediterranean.ĭespite this, there are still those who would see the Syracusans brought to heel both Rome and Carthage have reasons to mistrust them. In spite of these trials, it has become renowned throughout the ancient world as a centre for culture and science: as home to a great theatre and inventors such as Archimedes, who resides there currently. A string of tyrannical leaders dominate that history, defending Syracusan sovereignty against fellow Greeks, Carthaginians and threats from within through a series of treacherous and gruelling wars. Syracuse is no stranger to war, fiercely championing its independence throughout its long, bloody history. ![]()
